Shelter is part of our essentials, together with food and clothing. Having a home generally means having other houses around us. We have neighbors that we want to live peacefully with, for the sake of everyone.
Here are some neighborly etiquettes that can help you get along well with the people in your neighborhood.
Deal With Pet Issues Accordingly
If you have a problem with your neighbor's pet, tell them about it. Do it nicely. You can start it by saying good things about the pet in question. This way, you can avoid hostility and confrontation.
On the other hand, if you are a pet owner, make sure you put a leash on your pet, remove poop, train your pet, and so on. If a neighbor complains about your pet, listen and be sympathetic.
Do not block the driveway of your neighbors when you park your car. You can always park in front of your home. Know the unofficial rule in your street about parking. For example, everyone park on one side of the street only.
If you want to avoid conflicts with your neighbors, then take noise into consideration. Avoid using your power tools too early in the morning. At least do it after 8 o'clock in the morning. With regard to nighttime noise, lower your voice and music volume after 9 o'clock at night.
If your neighbor's music or party is too noisy for you, knock calmly and tell them of your complaint politely.
Look for Red Flags
The scary truth is, violence and even death can happen due to a misunderstanding with a neighbor. The reason could be anything from minor to more serious matter. You can avoid war with your neighbors if you know what to do or not to do, based on the red flags you find out.
For example, if you have a neighbor who meticulously beautifies their lawn, then see to it that no one in your family will walk on their precious lawn and garden. This includes your pets.
Your neighbors will not leave just so you could have some peace of mind, and vice versa. Therefore, it is better to do your part in making the relationship with your neighbors work.
As you try your best to be a pleasant and friendly neighbor, make sure you also arm yourself with the right homeowner's coverage because co-existing with other people comes with advantages and disadvantages.
